Departments and Branches
As a central academic institution of Heidelberg University, the South Asia Institute today has seven departments. Thus the SAI combines social sciences, economics and geosciences with historically and philologically oriented cultural studies. With this set-up, it has academic expertise in the linguistic and cultural traditions of South Asia and offers a broad basis for historical as well as contemporary, modern South Asian studies.
Branch Offices
Since its foundation, the SAI has maintained branch offices to promote academic relations with South Asian countries. The SAI currently has one branch office in India (New Delhi) and one in Nepal (Kathmandu).
