Political Science in Master Political Science in Master (MADESH)

Master's students can specialize in different areas and choose different combinations. The aim of the degree programme is to familiarise students with interdisciplinary approaches from various areas of the humanities and social sciences and to enable them to work independently and self-reflectively. Students can choose political science as a major subject (focus area) or as a minor subject (supplementary module). The discipline focuses on political developments in the South Asian countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Political Science can be combined with the following other disciplines:

  • History
  • Anthropology
  • Geography
  • Development Economics
  • Art History and Visual Culture
  • Languages in the accompanying subject

Teaching takes place in English in small groups made up of students from all over the world.

Modules:

Depending on your subject combination, you can take a variety of different modules in Political Science.

One of the following four lectures is offered each semester:

  • ‘Political Economy of Development in South Asia’
  • ‘Comparative Politics and South Asia’
  • ‘Comparative Methods and Historical Institutionalism: Reflections on South Asia’
  • ‘International Relations and South Asia’

There is also a wide range of seminars, which vary each semester.
