Political Science Modules in South Asian Studies Bachelor

Up to four modules are available for the subject of Political Science in the Bachelor's programme. How many and which of the modules you can choose depends on the weighting with which you study South Asian Studies and whether you select Politics as a specialisation or as an elective. In this section, we will first show you the structure of the four available modules. If you then scroll down further, you can also see which modules you can take in your individual specialisation.

In the Bachelor's programme, you have the opportunity to take up to four modules in Political Science. The modules consist of lectures that are completed with a written examination (4 CP), seminars in which you have to take an oral examination (4 CP) and seminars in which you have to take both an oral and a written examination (6 CP)

One of the following four lectures is offered each semester:

  • ‘Political Economy of Development in South Asia’
  • ‘Comparative Politics and South Asia’
  • ‘Comparative Methods and Historical Institutionalism: Reflections on South Asia’
  • ‘International Relations and South Asia’

There is also a wide range of seminars, which vary each semester. You can find more information on the current seminar programme on HeiCo.

The basic module 1 consists of a lecture (4 CP) and two basic seminars (4 CP each), which you can choose from the available courses. On HeiCo you can see which of the lectures and seminars can be taken in Module 1.

Basic module 2, on the other hand, comprises two more advanced seminars, each worth 6 CP.

After completing the two basic modules, you have the option of taking two further specialisation modules. In specialisation module 1, you will take a further lecture (4 CP) and a methods seminar in which you will learn academic working techniques for political science (8 CP).

Finally, in specialisation module 2, you can deepen your acquired knowledge in two further seminars (6 CP each).

If you choose all four political science modules, this will become your specialisation subject. However, if you choose to specialise in a different area, you also have the option of taking one or both of the two basic modules in the elective area.
