Since 2020 Altaf Hussain has been a PhD candidate from Kargil, Ladakh at the Department of Geography, South Asia Institute. He studied and received his master’s degree in planning with a specialization in Regional Planning from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, and a master’s degree in Geography from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He is also an associate member of the Institute of Town Planners, India (ITPI). He received a National Overseas Scholarship by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. His research interests include human and environmental interaction, mountain urbanization, urban planning, urban development, disaster management, and sustainable development.
