Multi-scalar Histories of Gender and Decolonisation in South Asia
- Date in the past
- Wednesday, 5. February 2025, 16:15 - 17:45
- SAI, Building 4130, Room 130.00.03
- Rosalind Parr - Glasgow Caledonian University
In this colloquium, Rosalind Parr explores how a multi-scalar analysis can enrich our understanding of gender and decolonisation in South Asia. The focus will be on the role of South Asian women’s organisations in postcolonial family planning projects - interventions that were at once associated with nation-building, international politics and the intimate realms of the body. It will be argued that, by considering the intersection of different sites and spatial levels, a multi-scalar analysis offers a model for thinking through the constraints of decolonisation and the question of gender in global perspective.
