PH.D-CANDIDATE Farhan Zaheer

Farhan Zaheer is a Ph.D. student at the South Asia Institute at Heidelberg University. His dissertation topic is “Exploring State Capacity in Pakistan: The Case of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor”. In 2020, he also completed his Master's degree at the South Asia Institute with the thesis “Stagnant Textile Exports of Pakistan: A Case of Weak State Capacity”.

Previously, he worked as a journalist covering business and political economy in Pakistan for more than 10 years. He worked as a full-time correspondent for leading newspapers in Pakistan such as The Express Tribune, the publishing partner of The New York Times. He has also worked for The News International, a leading English-language daily belonging to Pakistan's largest media group. He is a fellow of the International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ), Washington D.C., and has traveled extensively for national and international media training. He also taught for four years as a guest lecturer at Bahria University in Karachi, where he taught courses in various social science disciplines.
