ACADEMIC STAFF Dr. Astrid Zotter
Astrid Zotter joined the Department of Cultural and Religious History of South Asia (Classical Indology) at the Heidelberg University in 2023 as an assistant faculty member. She studied Indology and Religious Studies at Leipzig and received her PhD there in 2010. Since 2008, she has been working at the SAI in various projects, including the Collaborative Research Centre “Ritual Dynamics” or the Research Unit “Documents on the History of Religion and Law of Premodern Nepal” of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
Her research deals with Hindu traditions and with Nepalese history and languages. In her work she combines textual studies with fieldwork, develops and applies methods from Digital Humanities. She has published on topics such as rituals, festivals or goddesses.
