VedaWeb and Other Offers by Cologne South Asian Languages and Texts (C-Salt)

The Cologne South Asian Languages and Texts (C-SALT) platform brings together the joint activities of the Cologne Center for eHumanities (CCeH), the DataCentre for the Humanities (DCH) and the Department of Linguistics (IfL) in the field of South Asian language resources. The C-SALT platform includes the Cologne Digital Sanskrit Dictionaries (http://www.sanskrit-lexicon.uni-koeln.de), the largest digital collection of Sanskrit dictionaries, the Critical Pāli Dictionary (https://cpd.uni-koeln.de) digitally implemented by CCeH in cooperation with the Pali Text Society, the Nuristani Archive Cologne (NurAC) for rare recordings of Nuristani languages, as well as VedaWeb (https://vedaweb.uni-koeln.de), aDFG-funded virtual research environment for the linguistic analysis of ancient Indo-Aryan texts. The platform also includes several other projects such as the modelling of the most important Sanskrit dictionaries in TEI, the provision of resources via APIs (C-SALT APIs for Dictionaries) and the development of Kosh, a software framework for the creation and maintenance of APIs for XML-encoded dictionaries. In our presentation, we will give an overview of the digital resources and projects of the C-SALT platform, with a special focus on the DFG project VedaWeb.
Claes Neuefeind is managing director at the CCeH, where he is responsible for the ‘Coordination Office Digital Humanities’ of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts (AWK). Current activities include the coordination of the digital components of several cooperative research projects, a.o. ‘Itinera Nova’(with the Leuven City Archives), ‘Unlocking the Hidden Value of Seals’ (DFG-ANR project with Cologne Byzantine Studies and the CNRS Paris), ‘MPCD: Middle Persian Corpus and Dictionary' (DFG project with the University of Bochum and the FU Berlin), “The Formation of Europe” (academy project with the RWTH Aachen and the University ofWürzburg), and “VedaWeb” (DFG-LIS project with the Universities of Freiburg, Würzburg and Wuppertal). Besides that, he is also active for the CCeH and the DCH in the NFDIconsortia ‘Text+’ and ‘NFDI4Culture’ in the field of ‘Software Sustainability’.
Felix Rau has originally studied General Linguistics, Indology, and Sinology. He has worked on the Munda languages of India and on Austroasiatic languages ingeneral. He is now the managing director of the DCH, the research data management competence center of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Cologne where his main focus is on data standards and infrastructures, audio-visual data, as well as lexicographic data.
