A directorial debut by Chaitanya Tamhane, and released in 2014, “Court” is a 116 minute-long Marathi-language film on the antiquated Indian legal system. The subject of the film is demonstrated through the Mumbai sessions court trial of an aging protest singer, Narayan Kamble, who is accused of encouraging a manhole worker into committing suicide through his folk songs. The film describes the “judicial nightmare” of the Indian setting that is demonstrated by many real-life legal cases. There are four languages spoken in the film: Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, and English, and is set in Maharashtra. The film has been critically acclaimed.
